Dr Sarah Borwein is a Canadian physician who has lived and worked in Hong Kong and Beijing for 22 years. She worked as a staff physician at the Beijing United Family Hospital where she was Director of Infection Control during the SARS outbreak in 2003.

After returning to Hong Kong, she became a founding partner in 2005 of what is now a large multi-disciplinary medical group. In addition to 

patient care, she is involved with infectious disease surveillance both globally and locally.

She looks after a significant refugee population, is on the Board of Directors of the Patient Care Foundation, and is medical advisor to Outward Bound HK.

Having first-hand experience in the SARS epidemic in Beijing in 2003, and the COVID-19 epidemic in Hong Kong in 2020, Sarah has spoken and written extensively about the pandemic.

Sarah graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine in 1999 and then obtained Certification in Family Medicine from the College of Family Physicians of Canada, followed by an MSc in Infectious Diseases from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Seema Chaturvedi has over 20 years of capital markets and financial management experience. These women further impacted 2,500+ women through a pay-it-
forward multiplier.

As an impact outcome of AIRSWEEE, She is now launching Achieving Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Early Growth Fund to invest in women owned, led, influenced companies with the investment thesis that women businesses can be a great investment for purposes of both commercial returns and economic development impact.

He has published in the top academic journals, and also serves on their editorial boards.

Christine Yu is Founder and Managing Director of Lapidary, a venture focused on impact investments and venture building in South East Asia (Philippines, Thailand and Myanmar) and select Hong Kong opportunities. Lapidary both invests in and incubates early to mid-stage, for-profit and mission-focused companies across a wide spectrum of social and environmental impact mandates.

Prior to founding Lapidary, Christine spent a large part of her career in the institutional capital markets, serving in various corporate debt sales roles for HSBC in both Hong Kong and New York. Christine is also an active angel investor and leads the Hong Kong chapter of AngelVest, a Greater China-focused angel investing group with a network of angels across the region. An advocate for developing women leaders in Hong Kong, she currently serves as a Co-Chair of the Advisory Committee for the Mentoring Program of The Women’s Foundation. Joshua started his career in finance and was a Vice President with Morgan Stanley where he spent 8 years working in Hong Kong and New York. After a brief sabbatical in Norway he then transitioned to real estate with his family business, Asia Pacific Properties – a dedicated corporate real estate and relocation company serving multinationals, with offices in Hong Kong and China. APP acquired OKAY.com in 2011 and changed the business model, with Joshua becoming CEO in 2012.

Joshua will give advice on rent negotiations with the landlord for both commercial lease (office) and residential lease and provide information on what to watch out for regarding signing a new office and residential lease in the current climate.

Meet the Expert Patricia Yeung of Howse Williams

Patricia has focused on employment law since qualifying as a solicitor in 2011, and her experience in employment matters is now widely recognised in Hong Kong. Patricia heads up Howse Williams’ employment team, which consists of two partners (including Patricia) and three associates.

Patricia regularly advises employers and senior executives on both contentious and non-contentious employment matters. Her practice covers a wide range of work, including drafting employment contracts, handbooks and policies, terminations and advising upon the enforcement of post-termination restrictions and confidentiality obligations. She and her team frequently advise on the employment aspects of M&A deals and business transfers. Many of her clients operate in the financial services sector, and she frequently negotiates exit packages in relation to high-level employees of banks, brokerages and insurance companies. Patricia also advises upon the employment issues arising from discrimination and harassment, personal data related matters and immigration issues (including prosecutions). She also has experience in assisting employers and employees during the conduct of internal investigations and discrimination/harassment complaints.

Patricia has an in-depth knowledge of the Labour Tribunal, having assisted parties involved in Labour Tribunal proceedings for several years. She has also represented both plaintiffs and defendants in both District and High Court actions involving substantial claims for unpaid bonuses, enforcement of restrictive covenants and claims for injunctive relief in Hong Kong, including applications for injunctive relief. She also advises clients on licencing issues and regulatory investigations involving the SFC and the HKMA.
